DRIVE SHAFT BOOTS
Drive shaft boots, or otherwise known as CV gaiters, are protective coverings providing protection for constant velocity (CV) joints – parts which transmit power through a variable angle, at constant rotational speed, without an appreciable increase in friction or play. These joints transfer the torque from the transmission to the drive wheels, and are mainly used in front wheel drive and four wheel drive vehicles. Rear wheel drive cars with independent rear suspensions typically use CV joints at the ends of the rear axle half shafts. These boots provide protection by keeping the grease lubricating the joints sealed within, while keeping out dirt and moisture to prevent increase of friction and corrosion of the joints.
