A Kia Motors Company é uma das grandes indústrias da Coreia do Sul e uma das maiores do mundo no sector automobilístico. Entre avanços e recuos, por vezes motivados pelas conjunturas económicas da Coreia do Sul, a Kia Motors chegou ao mercado internacional, em 1991, com os Sephia e Sportage.O 50.º aniversário da marca foi assinalado em 1994 com a mudança de nome para Kia Motors Corporation e com o lançamento do primeiro motor coreano de 16 válvulas a gasolina, tudo isto num ano em que a marca começava a ser comercializada em Portugal.
